Streamline Your Next Roadtrip

Posted On: August 16, 2017

There’s never been a better time to go on a good old-fashioned roadtrip than right now. But knowing just what you might need can be tricky. Here’s a helpful list of things you’ll want to consider before hitting the open road.

Start With a Plan

While some may prefer to just wing it, it never hurts to have a plan. How much you develop your plan is entirely up to you, but generally having some idea of where you’re going and how you’ll get there is ideal. A few minutes of online research can save you hours in traffic or being lost on back-roads.

Pro tip: Bring a map! GPS signals can come and go out in God's country.

Tools to Beat Boredom

You may not expect this, but boredom can strike even on roadtrips. Staying active and engaged will help beat back boredom and keep you fresh for the whole journey. If you’re not in the driver's seat, then you have quite a few more options for entertainment. The go-to option for when you’re on-the-go is your phone: download as many movies, shows, and games as your heart desires. Better to download them before the trip starts though, as you never know when cell service will suddenly disappear. Always, always double check that your car has a phone charger, no matter how sure you are that it’s there.

If for whatever reason you’re doing your journey screen-less, then no fear: a book, a journal, a Rubik’s cube, or even coloring books and Mad Libs can help keep you preoccupied for the long haul.

Pro tip: Tunes make the ride tolerable. Bring your aux cord, and a spare aux cord in case the first breaks (it happens). If your car doesn’t have an aux port, then an extensive CD collection will do the trick.

Peace of Mind

The most important things to have are the ones you hopefully won’t need, but feel better knowing they’re there. Toilet paper is critical for the one run-down service station you’re bound to stop at eventually. A first-aid kit is worth having just in case the adventure gets a little bumpy.

For everything else, Stream Roadside Assistance has you covered. With assistance guaranteed anywhere within the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico, all you have to do is call the toll-free number on your membership card and we’ll send a service truck before the call is even finished. So no need to sweat a dead battery, a flat tire or even locking your keys in the trunk: help is at hand.

Comfort is Key

Depending on how far you’re going, you may be spending a lot of time sitting in your car. Preparation for every scenario will help keep your car the center of the adventure rather than a portable nightmare. A stockpile of roadtrip munchies and refreshing beverages can save you in case a craving strikes between pit-stops. Be sure to wear whatever feels best for you, as there are no fashion police on the road. It never hurts to have a pillow and blanket as well, just in case you feel a power nap coming on.
